Jazz Band
Jazz Band is Wilcox’s premier instrumental jazz ensemble, designed for experienced musicians ready to take their playing to the next level. Students explore a wide range of jazz styles, including swing, funk, rock, Latin, and bebop, while developing the skills needed to perform confidently as both individual musicians and members of an ensemble.
Students will develop:
● Advanced instrumental and ensemble skills
● Jazz style, interpretation, and music theory
● Improvisation and soloing
● Section playing and full-ensemble performance
● Independent practice, preparation, and musicianship
Jazz Band is ideal for students who already have a strong foundation on their instrument and are ready for more challenging music, greater independence, and the opportunity to grow as jazz musicians.
Prerequisites:
● Prior band or orchestra experience
● Audition
● Instructor approval
● Enrollment is limited based on instrumentation and ensemble needs
